This year’s ECREA-CLP workshop “Communication & Media Policy in Europe: Assessing the Past, Setting Agendas for the Future” (October 25-26, 2013) has two interrelated objectives. The first is to undertake an exploration of a range of the main conceptual and practical issues which have framed the academic analysis of communication and media policies in Europe over the course of at least the last decade. Second, the workshop will draw on this experience to explore key issues that can set the agenda for the short to medium term in communication and media policy in Europe.
Overall, the workshop aims to draw together policy lessons from the past and, in so doing, frame an agenda for the future. Themes which may be addressed include the role of regulation, infrastructures, convergence, Europeanization, commercialization and ownership as well as new theoretical and methodological approaches.
Abstracts for the CLP-Workshop of no more than 400 words should be submitted in Word document format directly to the conference organizer Seamus Simpson (email@example.com) by May 22, 2013. It is the intention of the organizer to put together an edited volume of the conference contributions. The Registration fee for the workshop is £25.

EPRA Round Table
As part of the workshop, ECREA-CLP is organizing an exclusive round table discussion with representatives of the European Platform of Regulatory Authorities (EPRA) on the research needs of broadcasting regulators in Europe. It aims at discussing the questions of what kind of research regulators are interested in, whether academia is failing in providing that research and what can be done by scholars and regulators to facilitate exchange.
YECREA Pre-Workshop Event
On the morning of Friday, October 25, 2013, YECREA organizes a pre-workshop event for young scholars in the research field of communication law and policy: “Challenges and Crossroads of Communication Law & Policy Research for Young Scholars”. This mini-workshop aims at discussing the question of how to pursue an academic career in this research field and gives young scholars the opportunity to gain some insight into the situation of professionals at different stages of their careers.
